Drone Surveillance Queensland

Licensed drone surveillance across regional Queensland.

Regional Queensland Investigations provides lawful, discreet and evidence-based drone surveillance for private clients, law firms, insurers, employers, businesses, councils and organisations requiring independent aerial evidence.

With a licensed drone operator on staff, RQI can integrate aerial surveillance with conventional ground surveillance, contemporaneous investigation notes, secure evidence handling and professional reporting.

Drone surveillance across regional rural and remote Queensland

Aerial surveillance when ground surveillance is not enough

Drone surveillance can provide a wider view of a property, worksite, rural area, industrial location or surrounding terrain where distance, access, visibility or safety limits conventional observation.

Regional Queensland investigations often involve large properties, mining areas, farms, depots, isolated infrastructure, remote worksites and locations where there are few safe or discreet ground observation points.

RQI uses drone technology as an investigation tool, not simply as aerial photography. Each deployment is linked to a defined investigative purpose and considered as part of the wider evidence-gathering strategy.

In-house drone capability

RQI has a licensed drone operator on staff, allowing drone work to be planned as part of the investigation rather than outsourced as a separate photography task.

  • Licensed drone operator on staff.
  • Integrated ground and aerial surveillance.
  • Evidence-based flight planning.
  • Contemporaneous investigator notes.
  • Secure handling of footage and photographs.
  • Clear reporting for clients and decision-makers.

Drone surveillance and regional field capability

Drone surveillance may assist where aerial observations can provide relevant evidence that would be difficult, unsafe or impractical to obtain from ground level.

What drone surveillance may assist with

Drone deployment is considered where it may produce relevant evidence and can be conducted lawfully, safely and proportionately.

1

Remote and rural properties

Observation and documentation of farms, grazing properties, isolated residences and large rural holdings where terrain or distance limits ground observation.

2

Industrial and commercial sites

Aerial documentation of depots, yards, storage areas, construction sites, industrial facilities and commercial locations.

3

Vehicles and machinery

Assistance identifying or documenting vehicles, heavy equipment, plant, machinery and other assets visible from a lawful operating position.

4

Worksite activity

Verification of observable activity across large worksites where a fixed ground position provides only a restricted view.

5

Roads and access routes

Identification of entrances, exits, tracks, loading areas, roadways and movement routes relevant to surveillance planning.

6

Difficult terrain

Observation of locations affected by vegetation, waterways, elevation, rough terrain, distance or restricted vehicle access.

7

Insurance investigations

Aerial evidence gathering where property condition, activity, access or visible use may be relevant to an insurance matter.

8

Corporate investigations

Investigation support involving suspected asset misuse, unauthorised operations, theft, stock loss or commercial concerns.

9

Site verification

Aerial documentation of project sites, buildings, infrastructure, visible product use, development progress or site conditions.

Ground surveillance and drone surveillance working together

A drone does not replace the surveillance investigator on the ground. In most matters, drone surveillance provides an additional observation capability during an otherwise conventional surveillance operation.

The ground investigator establishes the surveillance position, observes relevant persons and vehicles, maintains contemporaneous notes and determines whether aerial deployment would assist the investigation.

Coordinated plan

Ground and aerial surveillance are planned around the same investigation objective and evidence requirements.

Timed deployment

Drone deployment can be timed to relevant activity, location conditions, visibility and operational need.

Investigator notes

Contemporaneous surveillance running sheets are maintained alongside aerial footage and photographs.

Evidence continuity

Footage and images are handled as evidence and linked to the date, time, location and investigation context.

Professional reporting

Relevant aerial observations can be incorporated into a formal surveillance or investigation report.

Operational discretion

RQI considers whether drone use may compromise the broader surveillance operation before deployment.

How drone surveillance is charged

RQI charges normal surveillance hours, plus an additional drone operation charge only while the drone is actively in the air.

The additional drone rate does not apply throughout the entire surveillance shift. It applies only to actual flight time.

1

Normal surveillance time

The standard surveillance hourly rate applies while the investigator is deployed, conducting observations and maintaining the surveillance record.

2

Actual drone flight time

The additional drone operation rate applies only for the period the drone is actively in the air.

Example: if RQI conducts six hours of surveillance and the drone is flown for one hour, the client is charged six normal surveillance hours plus one drone flight hour. Travel, vehicle expenses, accommodation and agreed reporting or evidence-preparation costs may also apply.

How RQI plans a drone surveillance operation

Each proposed deployment is assessed against the investigation objective, location, operational conditions and applicable requirements.

1. Initial assessment

We review the client’s instructions, available information, surveillance objective and the evidence being sought.

2. Feasibility review

We assess the location, terrain, launch position, likely visibility, airspace, weather and operational limitations.

3. Legal and privacy assessment

The proposed activity is considered against lawful purpose, proportionality, privacy implications and location restrictions.

4. Operational planning

We identify surveillance positions, deployment windows, safety controls and ground investigation requirements.

5. Evidence capture

Relevant aerial photographs and video are captured methodically and connected to the investigation context.

6. Reporting

Relevant aerial observations are incorporated into a clear surveillance or investigation report.

Why engage an investigation firm for drone surveillance?

Operating a drone and conducting a professional investigation are different functions. A general drone provider may capture aerial photography, but RQI deploys drone technology where it supports a defined investigation objective.

RQI’s drone surveillance is coordinated with ground surveillance, investigator observations, evidence handling, reporting and the wider investigation strategy.

Lawful, proportionate and carefully planned

Drone surveillance involves more than flying an aircraft and recording video. The operation must support a proper investigation objective and comply with requirements applying to the aircraft, operator, airspace and proposed flight.

  • Clearly defined investigation purpose.
  • Licensed drone operator within the RQI team.
  • Applicable aviation requirements considered.
  • Airspace and location restrictions assessed.
  • People, property and aviation safety considered.
  • Privacy and surveillance implications assessed.
  • Lawful launch and recovery location identified.
  • Weather and environmental conditions reviewed.
  • Evidence securely handled and reported.
  • Deployment limited to what is reasonably required.
